Paws, Purpose and Possibilities

Therapy dogs, love, loss, and grief.  What are the possibilities that these might come together in such a way as to bring joy and healing not only to one person but to many?  I learned about therapy dogs when I sought to find meaning in my grief after the loss of my sister, Karen, to cancer.  I worked with therapy dogs for nearly 25 years as my gift to Karen and in her memory.

I share my stories as well as those from others with whom I worked in two active therapy dog programs for over twenty years. Come and read as I share the tears and the joys of my journey.

Paws Purpose Book

Therapy Dogs love attention

Dogs do wonderful things for the soul. They love us. They forgive us even when we may mistreat them or not love them back the way they love us. They are our constant companions. For many dogs, their main purpose in life is to love us and make us happy. What a good deal we got when God placed dogs in our lives!!!
Paws Purpose the book

Therapy Dogs love people

A certified therapy dog must be friendly, patient, confident, gentle, and at ease in all situations. Therapy dogs should enjoy human contact and be content to be petted, cuddled, and handled, sometimes clumsily, by unfamiliar people and to enjoy that contact.
